Iran keen to increase shrimp farming

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 14

Iran plans to double shrimp farming in the country in 4 years (until March 19, 2026), an official of Iran Fisheries Organization Morteza Afrasiabi said, Trend reports citing Iranian Ministry of Agriculture Jihad.

The official stressed that Iran plans to grow 130,000 tons of shrimp annually until the mentioned date.

Afrasiabi also added that shrimp farming in Iran's Sistan and Baluchestan, Golestan and Khuzestan provinces continues. So, the country plans to grow 70,000 tons of shrimp next year. This requires 6 billion shrimp chicks.

"At present, there are 11 shrimp farms in the Bushehr Province (southern Iran), all of which are operating," he said.

According to the official, there are currently 23 shrimp farms in Iran's Hormozgan Province, 2 in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, 1 in Golestan Province and 1 in Khuzestan Province.
