The Embassy of India in Baku hosted a focussed trade event, “Weaving Wonders with Threads of Opportunity: Unveiling India’s Textile Treasures,” on 24 April 2024. This event aimed to strengthen the Indian textile industry’s presence among Azerbaijan’s key business people and textile importers.
Mr. Sridharan Madhusudhanan, Ambassador of India to Azerbaijan, addressed the event attendees. He highlighted the global reputation and increasing demand for Indian textiles and underscored the integration of cutting-edge technology and innovative designs within India’s textile manufacturing sector.
Additionally, Mr. Sanjay Jain, Counsellor, provided an in-depth analysis of the strengths and competitive advantages of Indian textiles in the international arena and their relevance to the Azerbaijan market.
India, the world’s largest producer of cotton and jute and the second-largest producer of silk and man-made fibres plays a vital role in the global textile market. In 2022, India’s textile exports surged to USD 44 billion, with man-made fibre (MMF) textiles reaching USD 6.8 billion. The leading importers of India’s MMF textiles include the USA, Turkiye, UAE, Bangladesh, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Germany, Italy, and Belgium.
The event showcased the superior quality of both cotton and synthetic Indian fabrics, emphasising the cost-effectiveness and technological advancement that characterise India’s textile offerings.
The gathering was well attended by importers and representatives from major Azerbaijani textile businesses, demonstrating a keen interest in Indian textile products. The event concluded with a vibrant Q&A session, during which Embassy officials reiterated their commitment to providing comprehensive support for Azerbaijani textile importers and distributors for their import initiatives from India. Participants from Azerbaijan shared their positive experiences and satisfaction with the quality of textile products sourced from Indian manufacturers, highlighting the mutual benefits and promising growth potential for both nations in this sector.
