Tajikistan allocates funds for Rogun HPP construction

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, April 26. The Tajikistan government has instructed the Ministry of Finance to allocate 60 million somoni ($5.5 million) to the construction project of the Rogun hydroelectric power plant, Trend reports.

According to the government's resolution dated April 8, the funds will be drawn from the Government Stabilization Fund for Economic Development. Taking into consideration the provision of additional cash, it has been entrusted with revising the Republican budget's financing plan for 2024.

The Rogun HPP is a 3600-MW hydroelectric power station under construction on the Vakhsh River. It is intended to install six units, each with a capacity of 600 MW. The Rogun HPP's average annual electricity generation is estimated to be more than 17 billion kWh. The dam's height is 335 meters.

According to Tajikistan's Minister of Energy, Daler Juma, an average of $1 billion is allocated annually for the construction of the Rogun HPP. The latest data estimates that $6.2 billion will be required to complete the construction of the HPP.

The country's Minister of Finance, Faiziddin Kahhorzoda, informed Tajikistani media that the government plans to allocate 5 billion somoni ($456 million) for financing the Rogun project within the year. In January of this year, the government, through its decree, instructed to allocate 100 million somoni (over $9.1 million) from this fund to Rogun construction.
