BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 15. COP29 will meet the expectations of the international community, said Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, Türkiye’s Minister of Culture and Tourism, at the "High-Level Ministerial Dialogue for Culture-based Climate Action" at the ongoing conference, Trend reports.

"I am confident that this conference, under Azerbaijan’s leadership, will be a key step in our global efforts to combat climate change and will live up to the expectations of the international community," he said.

Ersoy pointed out that there's still a long road ahead and that hitting the nail on the head demands ongoing teamwork on the global stage.

"Climate change also threatens our cultural and natural heritage. Many cultural and natural sites are increasingly vulnerable to extreme weather events. These risks underscore the urgent need to protect our shared heritage for future generations," he added.

Ersoy further noted that Türkiye fully supports the ambitious goals of Azerbaijan’s presidency at COP29.

"We are committed to working together to create a sustainable future for all," he concluded.

The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which will run until November 22, opened at the Baku Olympic Stadium on November 11.

The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Rio Earth Summit in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference in the climate system. The acronym COP (Conference of Parties) stands for “Conference of Parties” and is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change.

A total of 198 countries are parties to the Convention. Unless otherwise decided by the parties, COP is held annually. The first COP event was held in March 1995 in Berlin, and its secretariat is located in Bonn.
