BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 15. A ministerial dialogue on COP29 energy initiatives is being held within the COP29 Peace, Relief, and Recovery Day, Trend reports.
Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said that Azerbaijan is implementing strategically significant projects in the field of renewable energy in the region.
“The world has entered a critical phase in the field of climate and energy. Meeting at this critical moment, we have a historic opportunity to define the future of global energy. Through today's initiatives, we will demonstrate our commitment to a rapid transition to renewable energy.
With the strong support of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in the transition to clean energy, the initiative to create green energy zones in Karabakh, Eastern Zangezur, and Nakhchivan, and the creation of a diversified energy infrastructure to supply green energy from the Caspian Sea to Europe, our country is implementing strategically significant renewable energy projects in the region.
These efforts are aimed not only at creating a clean energy future for Azerbaijan but also serve as a driving force behind COP29 initiatives to accelerate the growth of green energy and overcome barriers both regionally and globally,” he said.
The Vice Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Ilyas Bakytzhan noted that Kazakhstan plans to reach a 15 percent share of renewable energy in the energy system by 2030, and the figure should reach 50 percent by 2050.
“In general, taking into account the global climate agenda of the Paris Agreement, Kazakhstan plans to reach 15 percent of the share of renewable energy in the energy system by 2030. The indicator should reach 50 percent by 2050. Today, this indicator is 6 percent.
Kazakhstan is a country with a developing economy. Therefore, taking into account the growth of electricity consumption by the population and the economy, we face the task of commissioning new energy capacities. According to the energy balance until 2035, 26 gigawatts of electric power will be commissioned, where the share of renewable energy should be 25 percent. We pay great attention, among other things, to adhering to the concept of a fair energy transition.
To date, the country is implementing projects such as the family card to monitor and obtain real indicators and data on the welfare of our people, and with the realization that the reform in the energy sector will entail an increase in tariffs for business and for the population, we are particularly balanced and with an economic calculations approach to the introduction of new capacity and attract investment," he noted.
