BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 15. The heads of relevant government agencies of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) member countries have signed the Baku Ministerial Statement on the creation of the “OTS Partnership for Climate, Innovation, Green Economy, and Trade” within the COP29 ministerial meeting, a source in the Azerbaijani Ministry of Economy told Trend.

According to the source, speaking at the event, Azerbaijan's Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov stressed that the country highly appreciates cooperation with Turkic states highly and supports integration processes between our countries.

He pointed out that joint initiatives will make an important contribution to achieving positive changes in areas such as combating climate change and the 'green' economy.

To this end, the Turkic States Partnership for Climate, Innovation, Green Economy, and Trade has been established as a platform to support the transition to a green economy among the OTS member states, the official explained.

Jabbarov mentioned that this initiative aims to promote closer cooperation for smart climate development and a just 'green' transition.

Within this framework, national strategies for 'green' development are being prepared, 'green' energy zones are being established, climate financing mechanisms are being improved, and the creation of 'green' SMEs and startups is being supported, along with the targeted implementation of other important initiatives, he added.

The event also featured speeches from Secretary General of the OTS Kubanychbek Omuraliev, Director General of Operations at the International Islamic Trade and Finance Corporation Nazim Nurdali, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy of Kazakhstan Nurlan Baibazarov, Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan Laziz Kudratov, Minister of Economy and Trade of Kyrgyzstan Sanjarbek Bolotov, Assistant Minister of Trade of Türkiye Mustafa Tuzcu, and Head of the Department of the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadov.

The speakers presented information on the climate and 'green' economy policies being implemented in OTS member countries.

The speakers emphasized the importance of strengthening partnership and cooperation processes between member states across various directions, focusing on collective well-being and an adequate approach to global challenges.

They also said that through the OTS Partnership, member states demonstrate their commitment to sustainable development, addressing climate issues, and promoting regional economic growth, and highlighted Azerbaijan's important contribution to strengthening the partnership among Turkic states.

The signed statement outlined a shared vision for the future based on innovation, sustainable development, and 'green' growth.

The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) opened on November 11. COP29, which is being held at the Baku Olympic Stadium, will continue until November 22. It is the largest event organized by Azerbaijan to date, and the first time in the region that it is being held in Azerbaijan.

The key expectation from COP29 is to agree on a fair and ambitious New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) on climate finance.

A total of 14 initiatives have been put forward by the COP29 Chairmanship.
