BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 15. As part of COP29 in Baku, Trend News Agency proudly presents COP for Hope, a special project offering an unparalleled platform to hear from world leaders and trailblazers in politics, economics, science, and ecology, all united by a shared commitment to addressing today’s pressing climate challenges.

Today, we are honored to speak with Kineret Dahan Granit, Head of Renewable Energy at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure of Israel.

In an exclusive interview with Trend on the sidelines of COP29 in Baku, Granit noted that COP29 opens up a valuable opportunity to learn from international expertise.

“It underscores the importance of diversifying our energy generation sources. As we’ve learned here at COP29 in Baku, some challenges are universal. Many countries struggle with grid limitations, and there is a shared understanding of the critical role renewables play in boosting economies, creating jobs, and enhancing energy security,” she said.

Granit noted that this COP has been incredible.

“The event is exceptionally well-organized, and we deeply admire Azerbaijan’s role as a bridge connecting the West and East, North and South. What we’ve learned and observed here inspires us. Our hope is to build sustainable and fruitful partnerships. During this COP, we learned about innovative policy measures adopted by other nations and signed a collaboration agreement with Germany. We’ve achieved a lot here, and our aim is to implement these lessons back home in Israel,” she added.

Further, Granit pointed out that in recent years, Israel’s renewable energy sector has been growing rapidly.

“However, our country faces unique challenges, such as limited territory and extreme heat. We don’t have rivers or mountains to rely on for energy generation. Israel takes global efforts to combat climate change very seriously, seeing them as essential to our national agenda. Our goal is to generate 30 percent of our energy from renewable sources by 2030. To achieve this, we must work in diverse and innovative ways, fostering meaningful collaborations and partnerships. We are working on multiple levels to reach our national renewable energy targets for 2030. This vision aligns with our commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 while ensuring our energy sector remains secure, sustainable, resilient, and efficient,” she concluded.
