BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 15. Central Asian countries have ambitious plans for achieving collective and regional sustainability and environmental security in the future, Vice Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Ilyas Bakytzhan said during the Ministerial Dialogue on Promoting the Energy Transition Based on Renewable Energy in Central Asia, Trend reports.
"Our countries have ambitious plans for achieving collective and regional sustainability and environmental security in the future. On the sidelines of COP29, we successfully announced the implementation of major intergovernmental projects in the field of green energy development.
In particular, the Presidents of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan signed an intergovernmental agreement on the construction of a deep-water cable across the Caspian Sea. This is the largest regional project, which will contribute to creating the infrastructure for exporting green energy to Europe in the future," he added.
The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) opened on November 11. COP29, which is being held at the Baku Olympic Stadium, will continue until November 22. It is the largest event organized by Azerbaijan to date, and the first time in the region that it is being held in Azerbaijan.
The key expectation from COP29 is to agree on a fair and ambitious New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) on climate finance.
A total of 14 initiatives have been put forward by the COP29 Chairmanship.
