Iran considers the purchasing of Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircrafts from Russia, amid rising concerns over growing ties between the two neighbors.
On a Friday meeting between Russia's Transport Minister, Igor Levitin, and Iran's Minister of Road and Transportation, Hamid Behbahani, the two ministers reviewed the aspects of boosting ties between the two nations, Ria Novosti reported.
Following the meeting, Russia's Transport ministry announced that the Iranian side considers the possibility of purchasing a considerable number of the latest version of the Superjets, Press TV reported.
In a MAKS 2009 air show in the Moscow-area Zhukowski, the Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company said it is to prepare the first series of the aircrafts, Sukhoi Superjet 100, for international markets by the end of the year 2009.
The ministers also emphasized on the development of the North-South International Transportation Corridor and agreed on attracting cargos from India and other southeastern Asian countries.
The 'North-South' corridor will connect Northern Europe, Scandinavia and Russia with the Persian Gulf, the Indian Sea, and south-eastern Asia, transiting Iran. Staring from the Indian Sea region, this corridor passes the Bandar Abbas port in southern Iran and in highway and stretches towards northern Iranian ports in the Caspian Sea.
