Azerbaijani navy ships will unofficially enter Astrakhan for the first time, deputy commander of the Caspian Flotilla and first rank captain Alexander Prokhorov told ITAR -TASS today.
"Azerbaijani navy ships left the port of Baku," he said. "Now they are accompanied by our small artillery ship Volgodonsk. On Wednesday, the guests will arrive at the port of Astrakhan."
Three warships will enter Astrakhan. Naval Commander, Vice Admiral Shahin Sultanov leads them.
According to the Southern Military District, the Azerbaijani guests will meet with the command of the Caspian Flotilla and the leadership of the Astrakhan region as part of a one day visit. The sailors will lay wreaths at the Eternal Flame and flowers at the monument to national leader Heydar Aliyev.
Afterwards, Azerbaijani ships will open the 'doors' to the public for two hours when visitors can take pictures and view the cabins.
Representatives of the Caspian flotilla have visited Azerbaijan several times. This year the Dagestan missile carrier and Volgodonsk small artillery ship were in Baku in early August.
