BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 13. As part of COP29 in Baku, Trend News Agency proudly presents COP for Hope, a special project offering an unparalleled platform to hear from world leaders and trailblazers in politics, economics, science, and ecology, all united by a shared commitment to addressing today’s pressing climate challenges.

The Secretary of Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amrit Bahadur Rai, became our next interviewee.

He told Trend that he hopes that the countries implementing climate finance will fulfill their commitments to the end.

According to him, participation in COP29 is of particular importance to Nepal.

“Participation in this conference is significant to us. We are apprehensive that our economy is progressively diminishing in the battle against climate change. This impacts not only Nepal but also numerous developed nations and millions of individuals. We must collaboratively concentrate on strategies to preserve our lives. Collective action is needed to address the issue of climate change. This is due to its status as a worldwide issue.

You know that developed countries have to fulfill their current commitments. We hope that climate finance countries will honor their commitments to the end.

The COP29 conference is extremely important to fulfill these commitments. We hope that here the countries will agree on even more financing and technology transfer in the fight against global climate change,” he said.

The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) started in Baku on November 11.

The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Rio Earth Summit in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference in the climate system. The acronym COP (Conference of Parties) stands for “Conference of Parties” and is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change.

A total of 198 countries are parties to the Convention. Unless otherwise decided by the parties, COP is held annually. The first COP event was held in March 1995 in Berlin, and its secretariat is located in Bonn.
