BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 13. UN Climate Chief Simon Stiell urged countries to harness the power of non-party stakeholders—businesses, local communities, cities, and civil society—in driving tangible climate solutions, Trend reports.
Stiell emphasized the need for “tangible outcomes that translate pledges into real results,” praising non-party stakeholders for their role in “providing action on the ground” and often bringing essential private funding to complement public efforts.
“Three-quarters of leading businesses have increased net-zero investments over the past three years,” Stiell noted, referencing this year’s Business Breakthrough Barometer. He pointed out that cities, states, and regions have become invaluable partners by offering critical insights from local levels and proposing tailored solutions to national governments.
Highlighting the urgency of resilience-building in the face of an “unstoppable momentum” for climate action, Stiell stressed the need for nature-based solutions and sustainable supply chains. “The world needs resilience,” he stated, urging businesses and communities to act as champions of adaptation.
The UN Climate Chief concluded by calling for governments to strengthen this collaboration through the next round of National Climate Plans. “Together is the only way we can get this job done,” Stiell emphasized, urging global unity to confront the escalating climate crisis.
