BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 13. Azerbaijan is making a significant contribution to the global effort to combat climate change, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, and COP29 President-Designate Mukhtar Babayev said in his address to the participants of the Troika High-level Dialogue: Our Roadmap to Mission 1.5 towards a future of shared prosperity, Trend reports.
The statement was delivered by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Lead Negotiator of COP29 Yalcin Rafiyev.
"Our goal is clear – to create positive momentum to achieve the critical target of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. This target is not just a number; it is a lifeline for our planet and future generations. Azerbaijan is making a significant contribution to the global fight against climate change. We have launched ambitious initiatives that serve as a bridge between Europe and Asia. One of our most significant projects is the green energy Corridor, which will connect renewable energy from the Caspian and Central Asian regions to Europe.
This corridor, developed in collaboration with Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Georgia, and Türkiye, represents an important step towards enhancing energy security and resilience at the intercontinental level," the statement said.
To note, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) started in Baku on November 11.
