BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 13. A panel discussion is taking place during the World Leaders Climate Summit on the topic “The Power of Collaboration: Unifying Forces for Net-Zero” within COP29 in Azerbaijan's Baku, Trend reports
Azerbaijan's Minister of Economy, Mikayil Jabbarov said that efforts to achieve carbon neutrality must be expedited.
"We are here to collaborate. My response can be broken down into three key points. First, I want to address the principles that should guide our collective efforts. Second, the importance of policy. And third, the vital role of the private sector.
Regarding the principles, we have observed that some approaches have not delivered the results we had hoped for. Let’s start with the principle of inclusivity. In early January, at the Davos forum, we were the first to speak about the COP conference on behalf of the government of Azerbaijan. At that time, the question was: how does Azerbaijan plan to structure its approach? We consider the principle of inclusivity to be central. Throughout this process, there have been instances of industry exploitation and attempts to politicize the issues at hand," the minister said.
Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan Laziz Kudratov noted that Uzbekistan will continue its collaboration with international partners to achieve its green transition objectives.
"Uzbekistan is actively advancing its green transition, with one of the key achievements being the successful implementation of the Green Energy Certificate system. This initiative supports manufacturers who use renewable energy sources and environmentally friendly technologies. Each certificate corresponds to a reduction of 5,000 kWh in energy consumption, thus encouraging sustainable production practices. To date, approximately 20,000 certificates have been issued, reflecting the growing interest and progress in this area.
This mechanism benefits all stakeholders—both consumers and producers—by enhancing the environmental sustainability of their products. Moreover, it helps businesses secure financing for their investment and expansion plans, further accelerating the transition to a greener economy," he said.
