ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 13. Athens is
among the top five largest trade partners of Astana among EU
countries, said President Tokayev during his meeting with the Prime
Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Trend reports.
At the sidelines of the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to
the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the President of
Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, held a meeting with the Prime
Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Tokayev emphasized that Greece is a reliable partner of Kazakhstan in the European Union. In turn, Kyriakos Mitsotakis noted the enormous potential for strengthening Kazakh-Greek cooperation and expressed readiness to expand cooperation across the full spectrum of the bilateral agenda.
During the meeting, the parties confirmed their commitment to strengthening trade, economic, investment, and cultural-humanitarian ties and also emphasized the importance of diversifying mutual trade. They exchanged views on energy development and the decarbonization of the economy.
The meeting participants agreed to maintain an active political dialogue. The Prime Minister of Greece enthusiastically accepted Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's invitation to visit Kazakhstan.
On November 11, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) began in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku.
The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992, aimed at preventing dangerous human interference with the climate system.
The abbreviation COP (Conference of the Parties) refers to the highest legislative body that oversees the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change. The Convention has 198 parties. If the parties have no other decision, COP is held annually. The first COP event took place in March 1995 in Berlin, and its secretariat is based in Bonn.
