Volume of shrimp to be grown in Iran announced

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 8

It is forecasted that more than 52,000 tons of shrimp will be grown in Iran in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020), Chairman of the Iran Fisheries Organization Nabiollah Khon Mirzaei said, Trend reports citing Ministry of Agriculture Jihad of Iran.

According to Khon Mirzaei, the shrimp are grown at fish farm on minimum 12,000 hectares of land in Iran.

He added that a total of more than 1.28 million tons of fish and fishery products were produced in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020).

The chairman noted that of this production, 527,000 tons belong to fish and fishery products breeding facilities.

Khon Mirzaei emphasized that Iran exported 146,000 tons of fish and fishery products worth $539 million in the last Iranian year.

In addition, $99 million worth of fish and fishery products were imported in the last Iranian year, the chairman added.
