Kazakhstan, Russia resume negotiations on Khvalynsk, Imashev fields

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct. 28

Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy Magzum Mirzagaliyev met with Chairman of the Management Board of Gazprom PJSC Alexey Miller, Trend reports citing the press service of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy.

During the meeting in St. Petersburg, the parties discussed the main areas of cooperation in the gas sector, including gas processing.

The participants also discussed issues of stability of acceptance of Karachaganak gas by the Orenburg GPP and gasification of the East Kazakhstan and North Kazakhstan regions and others.

In addition, an agreement was reached at the meeting to resume negotiations on the development of the Khvalynsk and Imashev fields.

"We have taken a course towards active development of oil and gas fields with a focus on gas processing. To this end, we have developed a number of fiscal and regulatory preferences that stimulate the exploration and production of hydrocarbons. In recent years, gas consumption within the country has sharply increased, and will grow steadily, taking into account the transition from coal to gas, as well as the development of gas chemistry," Mirzagaliyev said during the meeting.

In turn, Alexey Miller said that Gazprom is interested in projects and is ready to return to discussing the terms of participation in them.

The parties noted both the demand for these projects and their economic efficiency, including the expansion of export opportunities for the two countries.

At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed their intentions for further mutually beneficial cooperation.
