UN Human Rights Council adopts resolution put forward by Azerbaijan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 3. Within the framework of the 52nd session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, the "Promotion of human rights and Sustainable Development Goals through transparent, responsible and effective provision of public services" resolution, put forward by Azerbaijan, was unanimously adopted, Trend reports via the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.

There are co-authors of the resolution from 65 states, including the US, China, Japan, member states of the EU, Australia, Canada, a number of countries in Africa, Asia and America.

The purpose of the resolution is to promote the principle of transparent, responsible and efficient provision of public services within the UN system, based on the concept of "ASAN Xidmət", which is one of the most important achievements of Azerbaijan in the fight against corruption and has become a brand of Azerbaijan in the international plane.

The adopted resolution emphasizes the importance of effective public services for the protection and promotion of all human rights and the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Agenda. Highlighting the important role that digital technologies play in preventing and combating corruption, the resolution invites UN Member States that have established successful models in public services to share their experiences with others.

The resolution establishes the "UN Public Service Award", which was awarded to "ASAN Xidmət" in 2015, as the world's most prestigious award in the field of public service delivery and calls on UN agencies and other international organizations to continue to encourage and reward successful practices existing in the relevant areas.

The resolution concludes with the mandate of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to prepare a report on the role of public services in protecting and promoting human rights and achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The unanimous adoption of the resolution and the accession to it as co-sponsors of numerous states, including the establishment and expansion of "ASAN Xidmət", is a clear indicator of the international community's support for reforms in the field of protecting human rights and combating corruption in Azerbaijan.
