Fund under Azerbaijani president to grant over 1 million manat to media

Azerbaijan, Baku, June 25 / Trend , A. Huseynbala/

Fund for State Support for Media Development under Azerbaijani president will provide 1.1 million manat for competitive projects.

"The remaining 200,000 allocated from the public budget is meant for expenses of the fund," head of Fund for State Support for Media Development under the President of Azerbaijan Vugar Safarov said at a news conference.

On April 3, 2009 Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree to establish Fund for State Support for Media Development. The public budget will allot funds for the fund annually.

The 2009 state budget is expected to allot 1.3 million manat.

Last year, Azerbaijani president allotted 5,000 manat for 38 newspapers and media outlets each.

Safarov said the media will not be provided with subsidies and long-term loans this year due to the fact that the amount allocated from the public budget this year is low. "Those who wish to participate in the media competition should provide necessary documents from July 1 to 30. Each winner will be allocated 20,000 manats," he said.

The current competition will be held in 11 directions, Safarov said.

Over 3,300 media outlets are registered in Azerbaijan. Only 600 of them are operating currently. There are nearly 400 newspaper and magazines and 20 television channels. There are about 50 electronic media outlets and 20 news agencies. The remaining are internet resources.
