BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 28. The Ministry of Emergency Situations continues to fulfill its duties in connection with preparations for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), to be held in Baku in November, Trend reports.
Meanwhile, it is noted that for this purpose, in January this year, the Ministry of Emergency Situations set up a headquarters, which included senior officials of the Ministry and working groups consisting of professional specialists in relevant fields, and developed and approved a plan of measures.
To perform at a high level the tasks set out in the approved action plan, all the Ministry's forces were mobilized from the first day. Within this framework, the relevant bodies of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, within the framework of their powers to reliably ensure the safety of the population, as well as the guests of the city, are monitoring the fields of fire, technical, construction, and radiation safety, flexible response to possible emergencies, as well as improving the ecological condition of Baku Bay and other areas.
Under the leadership of Colonel General Kemaleddin Heydarov, Minister of Emergency Situations, regular meetings on preparations for COP29 are held, reports of the headquarters members on the work done are presented and widely discussed, necessary instructions are given to solve relevant security issues, and their fulfillment is monitored.
To note, the majority of the work related to the preparation for COP29 has been completed by the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be held this November in Azerbaijan. The decision was made at the plenary meeting of COP28 held in Dubai on December 11 last year.
The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference in the climate system. The abbreviation COP (Conference of Parties) means “Conference of Parties” and is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change.
A total of 198 countries are parties to the Convention. Unless otherwise decided by the parties, COP is held annually. The first COP event was held in March 1995 in Berlin, and its secretariat is located in Bonn.
