BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 28. In the recent parliamentary elections in Georgia, the ruling party, "Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia," triumphed, indicating the electorate's repudiation of opposition factions associated with Western objectives and the Georgian populace's dedication to their own future, emphasizing prosperity and development over foreign influences, Azerbaijani Parliament member Azer Badamov told Trend.
He made it clear that by backing the "Georgian Dream," the people in Georgia have thrown a wrench in the works of Western meddling, which he painted as efforts to shove a foreign agenda down the throats of nations chasing their own paths.
"The election has shown that, despite various interventions and efforts to influence the democratic process, the West has not succeeded in its aims. The West predominantly aims to subjugate nations that adopt autonomous policies to its influence, frequently deceiving individuals with the discourse of democratic principles while eroding their hard-earned sovereignty. The citizens of Georgia have decisively repudiated Western influence through their decision. As a delegate of a cordial nation, I commend the Georgian populace for their judicious choice. As neighboring allies, we aim for mutual prosperity, sustained independence, and enhanced peace and cooperation in the region," he said.
He also highlighted the significance of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev's congratulatory letter to Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze following the election, noting that such gestures underline the value of friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
"Only the leaders of friendly and close nations extend their congratulations immediately after the election process concludes. In this context, President Ilham Aliyev's message reflects the significance of our neighborhood, friendship, brotherhood, and strong cooperation with Georgia," he added.
According to him, ensuring stability, development, and traditional values in Georgia, while also preventing external forces from exerting influence in the region, is crucial for advancing relations between the two countries and fostering cooperation and stability in the South Caucasus.
"In his congratulatory letter, the head of state emphasized the importance of further strengthening our bilateral ties and invited the Prime Minister to visit Azerbaijan at a convenient time. This invitation underscores the strong level of relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia," the MP stated.
He also highlighted the active participation of Azerbaijanis who are citizens of Georgia in the elections. By supporting the Georgian Dream party with a significant majority of votes, they expressed their opposition to the West's divisive policies in the region, which threatened to turn it into a conflict zone.
"Azerbaijanis living in Georgia made it clear that both Azerbaijan and Georgia stand united against the encroachment of Western forces and their colonial agendas. I believe the Georgian government will recognize the loyalty of Azerbaijanis to the state and address their concerns more attentively. If Armenia prevents the West from establishing a foothold in the South Caucasus, as Azerbaijan and Georgia have done, our region can become a haven of peace and cooperation," Badamov added.
In addition, another Azerbaijani MP Vugar Iskenderov told Trend that the parliamentary elections in Georgia were notable for many reasons.
"First and foremost, the election results represented a significant step against the insidious plans of the West for the South Caucasus," he said.
He noted that Azerbaijanis, along with other citizens of Georgia who uphold traditional values, opposed the West's strategy of fragmenting the region and turning it into a battleground.
"Our compatriots in Georgia deserve special recognition for their support of the Azerbaijani state and President Ilham Aliyev’s regional policy, which aims to strengthen and develop relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia. By backing the ruling party, they made a decisive choice between peace and conflict and between traditional and immoral values," Iskenderov said.
The MP emphasized that the voting patterns of Azerbaijanis are crucial for the ruling party's success.
"In regions of Georgia where around 300,000 Azerbaijanis reside, voter turnout was notably high. Azerbaijani voters account for approximately 7-8 percent of the total votes for the ruling party. Their considerable numbers and influence provide them with an important, even decisive role in the electoral process and the political landscape of Georgia," he added.
