BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 27. On October 26, Georgia held parliamentary elections that marked a significant turning point for the country’s future. These elections were a moment when domestic, regional, and global forces intersected. By casting their votes, the Georgian people not only took an important step towards peace and stability in the region but also prompted a reassessment of the West's influence on Georgia and the South Caucasus as a whole.
These elections also served to strengthen Georgian-Azerbaijani relations. As President Ilham Aliyev noted in his letter to Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, the election results will contribute to the continuous development of Azerbaijan-Georgia relations
"I express my belief that the results of the elections will contribute to the continuous development of Azerbaijan-Georgia relations, which stem from the will of our peoples who have historically lived in a spirit of friendship, brotherhood and good neighborliness, and further enhancement of the authority of our countries in the South Caucasus and the wider region," the letter reads.
In an interview with Trend, Georgian expert Tamta Megrelishvili commented on the election results, highlighting that Georgian-Azerbaijani relations are currently at a high political level.
"We are friends, and this is backed by numerous facts. I believe there is significant political potential for developing our business relations, and both sides can capitalize on it. Thanks to these elections, the Georgian people have secured peace, and we now have the resources to engage in more active collaboration and exciting mutual projects," she emphasized.
Megrelishvili added that the Georgian Dream Party has garnered strong voter support, ensuring stability and the peaceful progression of political processes in the country. The party has demonstrated its integrity and commitment to a peaceful policy, which has contributed to its victory. According to her, the positive outcomes achieved across various sectors underscore the effectiveness of the party.
She also noted that these elections send an important message to collective Europe. "If they continue to communicate with us through ultimatums and try to force us to legitimize immorality, they will lose every time. We have chosen morality, development, and progress for the Georgian state," she asserted.
Megrelishvili is confident that the Georgian Dream will ensure a peaceful policy in the country and will play a crucial role in regional dynamics. "Our friendly relations will rise to an even higher political level. Georgia stands as an example of how to resist the interference of the collective West."
She mentioned ongoing economic projects, such as highways and the Anaklia port, which hold significant regional importance. "Timely execution of these projects will have economic implications not just for Georgia but also for neighboring countries," she concluded.
The success of the Georgian Dream creates a favorable environment for further cooperation with Azerbaijan, rooted in friendship and mutual understanding. These elections are seen as opening new opportunities for joint economic initiatives and political collaboration, which will, in turn, enhance stability and prosperity in the region. Georgia and Azerbaijan have significant potential to strengthen their positions in the South Caucasus, and this partnership is vital for their sustainable development and security.
