Fili Ship sailing under the flag of Russia and owned by Russian company Vagna Shipping suffered distress in the Andriyevsky banks of the Caspian Sea, informed source told Trend .

On Oct. 26 at 12.30 the management of the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center of the port of Astrakhan addressed Azerbaijan for assistance. Two vessels of specialized fleet of Azerbaijan: Ayla and Avior were immediately sent to the disaster area to rescue Fili.

Preliminary cause of the accident is that the heavy storm flooded cockpit and the engine compartment, resulting in the ship's electrical equipment switched off and lost control.

At 08.15 on Oct. 27 the wrecked ship was taken in tow and now is being transported to the port of Baku.

The Russian ship has 1,700 tons of cargo, including 1,300 tons of stock steel, 400 tons of paper. Fili was sailing to the Iranian port of Nowshahr.

According to preliminary data, there are no victims or injuries among the 11-member crew of the ship.

At the end of last year Russian vessel Sarmat was in distress for similar reasons and was rescued by Azerbaijani rescuers. After repairs in Baku, it continued the movement, but this was preceded by trials on the question of Russia shipowner's payment for services rendered by Azerbaijani specialists.
