PACE Co-rapporteurs to   Azerbaijan to Visit in Early 2008

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend I.Khalilova / At the beginning of 2008 the co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on Azerbaijan will visit Baku, Yevgeniya Zhivkova, the newly appointed co-rapporteur to Azerbaijan told Trend on 12 November.

A familiarity meeting between Zhivkova and Andreas Herkel, the second co-rapporteur to Azerbaijan, will be held in Paris in December to discuss the situation in Azerbaijan and start a business plan. Zhivkova said that she was informed about the media situation in Azerbaijan. "Human rights are a very important issue and I am planning to discuss this issue with Herkel," Zhivkova said.

Zhivkova, a Bulgarian MP, was appointed co-rapporteur to Azerbaijan in Berlin on 6 November at a meeting with the PACE Monitoring Committee on 'lingering conflicts'. It comes as her second visit to Azerbaijan as part of the Bulgarian delegation. She paid a visit to Azerbaijan in 1975 with her grandfather Todor Zhivkov, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Bulgarian Communist Party. Now she is in Baku as a Bulgarian MP and is member of the mission accompanying the Prime Minister of this country. As a supervisor of the sports sector in Bulgaria, she intends to hold discussions with the Azerbaijani Minister of Sports and Tourism.
