Another Azerbaijani Opposition Party Plan to Take Part at Presidential Elections

Azerbaijan, Baku, 12 January / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / The opposition Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (DPA) will make the decision of taking part in the presidential elections at the end of January and beginning of February, Sardar Jalaloglu, DPA chairman, stated to Trend on 14 January.

The next presidential elections will be held in Azerbaijan on 15 October 2008.

According to Jalaloglu, the DPA is intending to participate in the presidential elections and nominate its candidate. The possible participation of the DPA in the upcoming presidential elections will be decided at the meeting of the Supreme Assembly of the party, which is scheduled for the end of January and beginning of February.

"The DPA considers that there are no better parties among the opposition camp than the DPA are. The new political course of the DPA should approve its platform. Therefore, party members are proposing to take part in the elections by its own candidate," Jalaloglu said.

According to Jalaloglu, the Party's Assembly will develop a project in order to participate in the upcoming presidential elections.

The DPA was founded by Sardar Jalaloglu in 1991. The party adhered to the radical opposition position in January 2007. Later, the DPA established new talks with the Authorities.

Besides, the DPA, the Musavat, Umid and Great Establishment parties also made the decision to take part in the upcoming presidential elections.
