One More Azerbaijani Opposition Party may Boycott Presidential Elections

Azerbaijan, Baku, 13 February / corr. Trend J. Babyeva/ The Opposition Union for Democracy deems it possible to boycott the forthcoming presidential elections in Azerbaijan. Ahmad Oruj, the chairman of Azadlig opposition party represented in the Union said to Trend on 13 February.

The Opposition Union for Democracy includes the Party of the Classic Popular Front, Azadlig and the National Democratic Party.

According to Orujov, the current election code of Azerbaijan does not allow for holding democratic elections.

The regular presidential elections in Azerbaijan will be held on 15 October 2008. The leading parties of the Azadlig bloc (Popular Front Party, Liberal Party and the Party of Citizens and Development) call on to boycott the elections if the political atmosphere in the country does not change. The parties demand that the election commissions be formed on an equal basis.
