Police Released Azerbaijani Youth Organization’s Members

Azerbaijan, Baku, 28 May / corr. Trend J. Babayeva/ The police have released the detained activists of the youth movements of Azerbaijan Dalga, OL, AN and an informal coalition of the youth movements of Azerbaijan Biz. The activists were detained on 28 May in the park in front of the Puppet Show building and were taken to the police department #9 of the Sabail district of Baku.

It was the 90th anniversary of the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan (DRA) on 28 May, which is marked as the Republic Day.

Some 12 members of the Dalga youth movement were detained in the police department for four hours. According to acting Chairman of Dalga Araz Gasimov, they were arrested while putting flowers near the fountains in the park. "The police detained Dalga activist saying that it was illegal to put flowers near the fountains," Gasimov said.

According to Gasimov, their finger prints were taken and were photographed in the police department.

Jamil Hajiyev and Vusal Aliyev, the members of youth organization of the oppositional Democratic Party of Azerbaijan- which are included in Biz coalition, were released after two-hour detention. They were detained while disseminating CDs about DRA to the passers-by.
