Georgian defense ministry opens training center

A training center was opened at the Georgian Defense Ministry within the framework of the NATO Professional Development Program (PDP). The training infrastructure was officially opened by Deputy Defense Minister Nikoloz Vashakidze and Program Officer David Johnson.

A training center was opened at the Georgian Defense Ministry within the framework of the NATO Professional Development Program (PDP). The training infrastructure was officially opened by Deputy Defense Minister Nikoloz Vashakidze and Program Officer David Johnson. The opening ceremony proceeded in presence of ambassadors of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Latvia to Georgia, the ministry reported.

The first event held in the center was the conference regarding the enhancement of media involvement and transparency on defence and military issues. The seminar was organized within the scope of NATO PDP. Discussions during the conference were mainly oriented at the public relations issues and the media role and functions during crisis situations.

The representatives of local public relations offices, together with those representing the partner states delivered the reports on three key topics: 1. public relations service functions; 2. media transparency; 3. transparency during conflict and crisis situations. The conference was opened by NATO PDP Officer David Johnson and Chief of the Press Division, Public Relations Department of MoD of the Republic of Latvia Mr. Kaspars Odins.  The representatives from both the Georgian and foreign press service offices; from military, civil and media institutions; journalists and experts also attended the event.

Public Relations Department of Ministry of Defence of Georgia brings up an initiative and requests all the conference attendees and other professionals with relevant competence concerned and organizations to cooperate with MoD and to provide on a regular basis  with consultations and remarks during the working process.
