A coalition of NGOs held a "silent protest" in front of the parliament in Tbilisi today to call for a start to public discussions about the new draft constitution and suspend the debate in the legislative body. Signatures were also collected for special appeal.

The rally in front of the parliament will continue until the requirements of the organizers are taken into account and the illegal consideration of the constitution is stopped, one of the organizers of the rally, Lia Mukhashavria, said.

"We will meet every day until we achieve the desired result", she added.

Signatures for a petition to call for the parliament to consider a new draft constitution were collected.

"The new project will extend Saakashvili's power after his presidential power is expired. This is done without taking into account the will of the population," MP Gia Tsagareishvili said.

Well-known politicians and academics attended the rally together with NGOs.

About 300 people attended the rally.
