The OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, Ambassador Knut Vollebaek, who is on visit to Uzbekistan, once again stressed the importance of an independent international investigation into the events in Kyrgyzstan. He made this statement during a meeting with the Uzbek President Islam Karimov, the UzA national news agency reported.
Karimov appreciated the OSCE High Commissioner's attention to the topical issues of international relations in Central Asia .
Karimov stressed that inter-ethnic harmony and stability is considered in Uzbekistan as a basic goal of public policy and social development.
Knut Vollebaek appreciated Uzbekistan's position during the tragic events in the southern regions of Kyrgyzstan in June 2010 and stressed that such a comprehensive thought-out approach allowed to prevent the escalation of the conflict and its transition to the inter-state level. The meeting also considered the state and prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the office the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities , as well as other issues of mutual interest
According to Trend, the delegation of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe ( OSCE ) met with Uzbek Ombudsman Sayyora Rashidova on Monday. The OSCE delegation will also hold talks in the ministries of foreign affairs, public education, higher and secondary specialized education of Uzbekistan, also in the Republican International Cultural Center.
Uzbekistan cooperates with the OSCE in spheres such as strengthening regional security and stability, development of civil society, expanding international economic and humanitarian partnership, and ecology as well.
