Turkmenistan, Belarus to hold talks in Ashgabat at high level

Bilateral talks will be held today in Ashgabat between the Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, who arrived at the Turkmen capital on an official visit the previous day, the Turkmen government said.

According to the government report, several important documents are planned for signing based on the results after the talks, "aimed at further development of traditionally friendly relations between the two countries and maximal realization of the Turkmen-Belarusian cooperation potential".

According to comments prepared by the Foreign Ministry, the diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and Belarus were established on Jan.21, 1993.

The previous high level meetings in 2009 and 2010 have enhanced the legal base between the two countries in the economy, education, science and technology, health, sports and tourism, as well as in ​​ tax law and customs, agriculture and chemical industries.

Last summer the Days of Turkmen Culture in Belarus were held in Minsk.

Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry emphasizes that regular Turkmen-Belarusian high level meeting will allow the parties to substantively discuss the prospects and opportunities for new joint projects.
