Iran will launch a research base in South Pole, a laboratory and national museum of marine research, as well as establish the National Fleet, Mehr News Agency quotes the Managing Director of Iranian National Center for Oceanography Vahid Chegini as saying on Monday.

Iran has assigned $10 million, $5.7 million of which has been already allocated to build and equip an ocean-liner to compete with Turkey and India (with 8 and 10 research vessel respectively) in regional free waters," he said.

Stressing the operation of first phase of the fleet building plan for free waters, he added that Iran prepares for building a national vessel to be launched in Caspian Sea as well.

Iran plans to be involved in South Pole and establish a research base, and we expect allocation of $110 million to build an ocean-liner vessel equipped with ice-breaker.

Iran named its ocean-liner vessel "Persian Gulf" and its national vessel "Caspian".
