FM: Development of economic cooperation to be priority for Azerbaijan's chairmanship in Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (UPDATE)

The development of economic relations between the member countries of Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States will be the priority for Azerbaijan's chairmanship, Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov said at the meeting of organization's foreign ministers, a report of the Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry released on Thursday said.

The meeting of foreign ministers of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States is being held in Azerbaijani city of Gabala on Thursday.

Mammadyarov noted the importance of developing economic agenda, which according to him, would reflect the specific priorities and terms of cooperation.

"The organization of industrial spheres' heads, particularly, of economy, transport, customs is of great importance. The decisions that will be taken at these meetings, will make an important contribution to organization's development," Azerbaijani Foreign Minister said.

Mammadyarov added that, nowadays all independent countries are facing the modern challenges of protection of peace and stability, as well as, securing social-economic welfare.

"Undoubtedly, no country can fight alone against the difficult problems, and the collective efforts are important. Azerbaijan believes that it is important to unite the efforts against all challenges to take effective steps and urges all countries to do so," Mammadyarov said.

Mammadyarov believes that from this point of view the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States has unique opportunities.

"Our goal is to make a good use of these opportunities for the welfare of our peoples," the minister said.

The meeting of the Foreign ministers is being held on the eve of the Summit of Heads of member states of Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States, which will be held on Friday in Azerbaijani city of Gabala.

The main topic of the discussion at the third Summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States should be the issues of cooperation in transport sphere and simplification of customs procedures.

During the event the discussion of issues related to the further development of cooperation between organization's member countries will be held.

It is also expected that during the upcoming meeting Kyrgyzstan will pass the Council's chairmanship to Azerbaijan.

The Council was established in 2009 by the Member States - Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey - with a purpose to make a joint contribution to peace and stability in Eurasia. The organization's secretariat is located in Istanbul.
