Number of approved presidential candidates hit 21 in Azerbaijan

At Saturday’s meeting of the Azerbaijani Central Election Commission (CEC), self-nominated candidates Rauf Guliyev, Hidayat Rustambayli and the candidate of Azerbaijani Democratic Party Sardar Jalaloglu were approved as presidential candidates.

At Saturday's meeting of the Azerbaijani Central Election Commission (CEC), self-nominated candidates Rauf Guliyev, Hidayat Rustambayli and the candidate of Azerbaijani Democratic Party Sardar Jalaloglu were approved as presidential candidates.

The plenipotentiary representatives of all three candidates were also registered at the meeting held under the chairmanship of CEC head Mazahir Panahov. At the same time, 20 plenipotentiary representatives of Jamil Hasanli, the candidate of National Council were registered.

The chairman of the CEC also added that to date, around 785 people were registered as observers.

Panahov warned the approved candidates that September 9 is the last day for submission of signature lists to CEC.

It should be noted that to date, only the candidacy of the Chairman of New Azerbaijan Party, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, was registered for the upcoming presidential elections.

The candidacies of additional 20 people were also approved.

Azerbaijani citizens who have the voting right (active or passive), initiative group of voters, political parties, blocks of political parties have the right to nominate the candidacy for participation in the presidential elections.

Presidential elections in Azerbaijan will be held on October 9.

Previous presidential elections were held on October 15, 2008.

Presidential elections in Azerbaijan are held each five years.
