The Chamber of Deputies of Paraguay adopted a statement condemning the massacre committed in 1992 in Khojaly town of Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan.
The statement reads that the Khojaly massacre was the biggest attack suffered by civilians over the three years of hostilities between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The ethnic massacre took lives of 613 Azerbaijanis, including 63 children, 106 women and 70 elderly, while 1,275 people were taken hostage, of whom 150 are still missing.
Also, 487 residents of Khojaly, including 76 children were left disabled, 26 children lost both parents, and 130 children lost one parent.
The statement stresses that many countries denounce the genocide of the Azerbaijani civilians and the crime against humanity committed by the armed forces of Armenia, condemn the military occupation of Azerbaijan's territories by Armenia, and respect the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and inviolability of the internationally recognized borders of Azerbaijan.
The statement reads that resolutions 822, 853, 874, and 884 of the UN Security Council urge to stop the aggression, focuse attention on victims, and encourage a dialogue to resolve the conflict that broke out as a result of Armenia's occupation of Azerbaijani lands.
The Chamber of Deputies of Paraguay condemned the genocide committed in 1992 in Khojaly and conveyed solidarity with the people of Azerbaijan in commemoration of the 26th anniversary of this crime against humanity.
