Mass sowing season started in agriculture in Azerbaijan. Favorable weather conditions enabled to intensify the spring sowing work, as result of which in the sown areas exceeded the figure fixed as of 1 April 2006. In the beginning of April the spring sowing was carried out in the area of 99,800h, which 8904h, or 9.8% more than 2005. Major reason for rise was increase of spring grass sowing.
7,300h was sown under grain and legumes with a rise of 11.3%, vegetable - 21,100h (+13.3%), water and water melons 2,800h (+41.2%), annual and perennial planting 26,800h (+5.2%), forage and sunflower 2,800h (+28.2%), potato 35,200h (+3.3%).

Р' In this period the agrarian production grew 2.5% in current prices, while the planting prices went up 1.4% and cattle breeding 3.4%.
In this period production prices of grains grew 0.6%, potato 3.2%, vegetables 15.4%, whereas fruit prices reduced 2.2%. Moreover, planting production rose 1.4%, cattle-breeding 3.6%. The total production grew 3.5%.
A Grain Council has been established at the decree by the Agriculture Minister. Bahram Aliyev, the Deputy Agriculture Minister, will head the new body, Trend reports citing Ismat Abbasov the Azerbaijani Agriculture Minister, as stating on Friday.
The new establishment targets a control over export and import of grains in the country, seeds produced by local enterprises and different issued linked with grains in Azerbaijan.
The minister informed that so far some facts of sale of low quality grains by several enterprises have been revealed. The product was realized to local farmers and entrepreneurs in the regions.
The Council was established to prevent such facts in future. In case any negative case is revealed, the work will be carried out in accordance with the rules specified by the legislation and decisive steps will be taken in respect to people who violated the law.
