Kazakhstan Determines Investors for Establishment of Kazakhstan Caspian Transportation System

Kairgeldi Kabildin, KazMunayGas Managing Director for Oil Transport and Service Projects, exclusively informed Trend Correspondent in Astana that the value of the establishment of the Kazakhstan Caspian Transportation System (KCTS), intended for the organization of the Kazakh oil to the Baku-TbilisiвЂ"Ceyhan export oil pipeline (BTC) is estimated at $3bln.

KCTS will be comprised of terminal in the Kazakh coast of the Caspian Sea, pipelines to a new port in Kuryk and Tanker Park.

Kabildin said that the participants in the Kashagan and Tengiz projects, which signed a memorandum on establishment of KCTS on 24 January 2007 will invest in this transport system.

Initial capacity of the oil terminal in Kuryk is 10mln tons a year. Further it is planned to expand the capacity of the terminal to 20mln tons. At present KazMunayGas is studying different technical components of the future project. Particularly, it is considering the necessity of construction of remote offshore piers for operation of the tankers with big deadweight.
