Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr K. Zarbaliyeva / The head of the Executive Power of Azerbaijani Yevlakh region applied to court urging arrest of the Khural newspaper's chief editor Avaz Zeynalli.
The Narimanov District Court in Baku received an appeal against Zeynalli from the head of the Yevlakh Administration Elmar Valiyev, his first deputy and the elderly men in the region. They urged making Zeynalli answerable for abuse and defamation, Zeynalli said to Trend on 20 November. According to the editor, the cause for the appeal was the article LLC named after Elmar Valiyev which had been published in the Khural. A range of articles was published in the newspaper as a result of investigation carried out by the newspaper.
A preparatory hearing will take place on 23 November.
Valiyev also launched a criminal case for Zeynalli. He demands fining the newspaper at AZN 150,000.
A court hearing on the case will take place on 27 November.
