Azerbaijan Purchase New Oil Tankers

Azerbaijan, Baku, 15 January / Trend / The Azerbaijani State Caspian Shipping Company (SCSC) signed a contract with the Russian Shipyard - Krasnoye Sormovo to construct tankers with a deadweight of 13,000 tons.

The term for delivery of the tanker is scheduled for October 2008. The tanker is equipped with 12 loads and one sediment tank, has a water ballast tank in double boards and double deep. The length of the tanker is 150m, width - 17.30m, height - 10.5m, deadweight - over 13,000 tons. The tanker may be used on the Caspian Sea without port terminals. The tanker can sail for 20 days.

The tanker will be used for transportation of raw oil and mineral oil.

The contract with SCSC on the first tankers was signed in 2006. In 2006 the President Heydar Aliyev, Babak, Shah Ismayil Khatai, Keroglu and Dada Gorgud tankers were delivered to the customer. The tankers are currently used in the Caspian Sea. In 2006 the Mahmud Afandi tanker was constructed for the Safinat An-Najaat Shipping Company Limited. The two tankers Masalli and Agdash were transported to the Palmali Group company. The third tanker for Palmali is under construction and will be completed in October 2008.

SCSC's main function is in the transport of cargo. The regions SCSC sail in are the Caspian, Black, Mediterranean Seas and the Sea of Marmora. SCSC ships sailing in the Black and Azov Seas transport cargo of foreign charters to European, Middle East and North African ports.

The marine and oil and gas projects group of companies has been implementing projects in ship building and engineering of sea drilling platforms. The group unites the Krasnoe Sarmovo plant, Volgograd Ship Building plant, as well as Sormov machine-building, Volgograd special machine-building and Friede & Goldman ( United States).
