Railway Deliveries Decrease by 30% in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 19 June /   Trend / The State Statistic Committee has reported that 72.4mln tons of cargo was transported within January-May 2008, 13.8% more as compared the same period in 2007.

Some 68% from total transported cargo fell on private sector. Some 43.5% was transported by automobile transport, 34.1% by pipelines, including 20.9% via Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and 1.7% - the South Caucasian gas pipeline, 15.9% by railway and 6.5% - by sea transport.

Some 481.8mln people were transported by passenger transports within January to May 2008, which is by 7.1% more compared the same period in 2007. Private sector made up 81.7%, automobile transport made up 81.8% and metro 17.6%.

Some 11.5mln tons of different cargos were transported by railway transport, which is by 72.7% less as compared to 2007.

Some 4.7mln tons of different cargos by sea transport. The figure is by 16.9% down as compared to 2007. Drop in transportation is explained by cut in transit cargo deliveries. Transport of oil and oil products made up 64.2% and 35.8% dry cargo. Almost entire amount of cargo deliveries falls on international operations.

The volume of cargo processed in the Azerbaijani ports within January to September made up 2.5mln tons, which is by 22.1% less as compared to the same period in 2007.

Some 31.5mln tons of cargo were transported by automobile transport, which is by 6.4% more as compared to 2007. The number of passenger transport made up 394.1mln of people with an increase of 5.8%; some 96.6% of passengers were transported by bus and 3.4% by cars. The number of passenger transport by metro made up 85mln of people with an increase of 14.9%.

Air transport decreased by 9.4% and made up 474,5000of people. 6.5% of passengers transportation by this transport was implemented by the private sector.

Some 20.2mln tons of oil was transported by main oil pipelines via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan.

The total volume oil transported by main oil pipeline increased by 29.7% compared to 2007.

Some 4.4bln cu m of gas was transported by main gas pipeline within 2008. The figure is by 74.1% more as compared to 2007. Some 1.9bln cu m of gas was transported via the South Caucasian gas pipeline.

Some 31.1mln tons of cargo and 15.7mln passengers were transported by Eurasian transport corridor via the territory of Azerbaijan within January to April 2008, 5.5% more compared to the mentioned period in 2007. The cost of deliveries made up AZN 85.1mln, which is more by 12.5% as compared to last year.
