Kazakhstan intends to produce 18,000 tons of uranium in 2010

Kazakhstan's national company KazAtomPom intends to bring the amount of uranium production to 18,000 tons in 2010, President of Kazatomprom Vladimir Shkolniksaid today.

"In 2010 we intend to produce over 18,000 tons of uranium," Shkolnik said.

He said that last year Kazakhstan ranked first in uranium production in the world, producing over 14,000 tons.

"In the first half of 2010, amount of production hit 8.5 million tons, which is 42 percent more than the same period of last year, while in the second half-year we intend to produce 9.77 thousand," Shkolnik said.

According to him, the company's total revenues in 2010 amounted to 106 billion tenge, which is 57 percent more than before.
