The Azerbaijani government plans to speed up the return of deposits remaining in the Savings Banks of AzSSR, Samir Sharifov Finance Minister said in Parliament during the discussion of the draft state budget for 2012 and the next three years on Thursday,
"There is a presidential task taking place on the subject and we intend to present an improved version of the On Indexation of contributions bill in the near future. I think we need this time to analyse the situation and submit proposals to the Parliament, as without the bill we cannot return deposits left over from Soviet times, "Mr Sharifov said.
In the case of approving the bill in 2012, there are opportunities for allocating funds from the state budget.
"It is a good basis to speed up the process of preparing the bill," Mr Sharifov said.
According to the old version of the bill, contributions indexing was planned to be carried out in a period of eight to 10 years and one of the instruments were securities.
"The experience of neighbouring countries has shown the inefficiency of this method of deposits indexation, as it leads to the depreciation of money," Mr Sharifov said.
Oktay Asadov Parliament Speaker supported Mr Sharifov's proposal on the solution of this issue in a short time, say within one to two years.
