The Russian nuclear corporation Rosatom and Kazakh National Atomic Company Kazatomprom plan to create a corridor for uranium transportation from Kazakhstan and Russia to Japan, the head of Rosatom Sergei Kiriyenko said on Friday.

"We had a very interesting project on building of additional transportation corridor ... Together with Japanese partners we are working on creating a special base project in one of the Far Eastern ports, which will allow the direct transshipment of raw materials - first of all natural uranium," Kiriyenko said at a press conference in RIA Novosti.

According to Kiriyenko, Kazakh Kazatomprom also participate in the project, because this corridor can be used for Kazakh uranium supplies to Japan, including uranium produced in Kazakhstan by Japanese companies.
