Turkmenistan has allocated large investments to transport, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said at a meeting of the Cabinet, noting the importance of the transport sector in expanding economic ties with the near and far abroad, the Turkmen government said on Monday.

"The state allocates large investments for the modernization of enterprises in all sectors of transport with the introduction of advanced technologies, efficient equipment and the latest technology," the president said.

In his opinion, the use of best practices and international achievements in these areas should contribute to the expansion of capacities of the transport sector enterprises, increase in the profitability of their activities.

The Turkmen leader instructed to keep under constant review the issues of technological re-equipment in transport, further improving the quality of passenger service.

According to the official Turkmen source, in the first eight months of this year, growth in the rail freight sector was 113.8 percent, and services for the transportation of passengers - 107.5 percent.

The corresponding figures for the Ministry of Road Transport amounted to 101.5 and 100.4 percent, and Public Service of Maritime and River Transport - 122.8 and 124.7 percent.

Growth rates of passenger traffic on the State National Service Turkmenistan Airlines reached 102 percent.
