Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan may create joint economic zones

Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan Erik Utembayev stressed the importance of creation of new joint economic zones by the two countries, during Uzbek-Kazakh business forum held in Tashkent.

“We would like to start the work on creation of joint economic zones with Uzbekistan in the near future. Previously our governments signed the border agreement, and I think our next step should be the creation of joint economic and industrial zones,” said Utembayev.

He added that the implementation of first economic zones in South Kazakhstan, Kyzylorda, Aktobe and Mangystau regions would provide an opportunity to realize not only transit, economic and investment potential, but also the development of general regional cooperation.

The Kazakh ambassador stressed the importance of the aim set by the leaders of the two countries in boosting the trade turnover up to $5 billion.

“One of the key points of this process is the organization of such business forums in the B2B (“Business to business”) format .
