Turkmenistan to apply ASYCUDA World system

The State Customs Service of Turkmenistan and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) signed a technical cooperation project agreement on implementation of the integrated customs information system ASYCUDA World, the Service reported.

The agreement was signed at a meeting between Deputy Permanent Representative of UNDP in Turkmenistan Vitaly Vremish and Administrative and Financial Manager Mary Rizaeva, who mulled bilateral cooperation on the implementation of the integrated customs information system ASYCUDA World.

The legal and organizational issues related to the purchase of equipment and software, as well as technical requirements for them were also discussed during the meeting.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov earlier demanded from the State Customs Services to actively implement the best of latest international practices in organizing a thorough inspection of cargo passing through the state border. This issue was raised at the meeting of the State Council for the Security of Turkmenistan.

The integrated automation of customs procedures will allow to increase the efficiency of fiscal and control functions of the SCS of Turkmenistan and to strengthen its operational capacity, including in combating smuggling, drag trafficking and other law infringements. The project will help to expand the transit potential of Turkmenistan and ensure the country's preparedness for the WTO accession in a future.

UNCTAD's integrated customs management system - ASYCUDA has been successfully implemented in over 95 countries around the world.
