Uzbekistan imported cement for a total of $79.8 million in 1H2018, which is six times higher than in the same period of 2017, the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan said on Aug. 16.

Since January 2018, Uzbek cement started to being regularly put up for national currency at domestic exchange trades. At the beginning of 2018, the quotation list of the exchange included Portland Cement PC-400 D20 and CEM II Portland Class 32,5 of Kazakh production.

According to the current legislation, when importing certain types of products, including cement, construction glass and black rolled metal, a preference is granted for customs payments, with the exception of fees for customs registration.

It was earlier reported that in 1H2018 cement production in Uzbekistan decreased. In six months, the enterprises of the industry produced 3,953,800 tons of cement. In 1H17, Portland cement production in the country amounted to 4,198,700 tons.

Analysts see the significant increase in natural gas and electricity as a major factor in the decline of cement production. Prices were increased in 2018 for producers of certain industries.

Gas and electricity consumption tariffs rose by at least 60 percent for the construction industry, including cement producers in 2018.
