This Iranian year (started March 21, 2019), 65 percent of Iran’s needs in cotton will be met domestically, said Director General of the Department of Cotton, Oilseeds and Industrial Products of Iran’s Agriculture Ministry Ebrahim Hezarjaribi, Trend reports citing the ministry’s website.

He said that the remaining share will be supplied through imports.

He added that by 2025, Iran’s cotton needs will be fully met domestically.

“Cotton plantations in Iran occupy 90,000 hectares,” he said. “This figure shows a 27 percent increase compared to last Iranian year (March 21, 2018 - March 21, 2019).”

It is possible to grow cotton in 15-17 provinces in Iran, he noted adding that Razavi Khorasan, North Khorasan, South Khorasan, Semnan, Isfahan, Ardabil, Pars and Golestan are the major cotton growing provinces.
