Farmers in Azerbaijan's Shaki continue tobacco production

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct. 12

Since the beginning of 2020, farmers in Azerbaijan's Shaki have produced 3,200 tons of dry tobacco, Trend reports, referring to “Azerbaijan Industrial Corporation”.

“This year tobacco was sown on Shaki farms on an the area of 1,108 hectares. This season, farmers have planted “Virginia Botanical” tobacco on the area of 598,5 hectares, and local tobacco varieties - on 509,5 hectares,” said the corporation.

It was noted that at the present time harvest tobacco continues on the farms. Some 1,920 tons of produced dry tobacco have already been purchased by exporting enterprises.

According to the data, from the beginning of the year to the present day, 10,795 tons of tobacco were shipped by farmers to Azertutun's tobacco production and processing points operating in Balaken, Zagatala, Gakh and Shaki.

It should be noted that through the efforts of Azertutun LLC last year in Zagatala, Gakh, Shaki and Balaken, a territory with a total area of 1,527 hectares was sown with 'Virginia Botanical' tobacco.
