Azerbaijan, Baku, December 3 / Trend , E.Ismaylov /

State Committee on Standardization, Metrology and Patents of Azerbaijan adopted new quality standards for diesel fuel, prepared earlier by the Institute of Petrochemical Processes named after Y.G.Mammadaliyev, a source at the institute said on Dec. 3. "New standards for diesel fuel have passed state registration. The State Committee has already approved them," said the same source.

Formerly, the standards were agreed with Refinery named after Heydar Aliyev, with the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Ecology. Previously, the diesel fuel was produced in Azerbaijan in accordance with standards remained from the Soviet Union.

In the new quality standards, the sulfur content in diesel fuel production was set at 0.1 percent. The plant currently produces diesel fuel with sulfur content of 0.05-0.065 percent.

It is estimated that the diesel fuel in European countries in 2009-2011 will be produced with sulfur content of 0.001 percent. However, to bring the quality of diesel fuel in Azerbaijan to this figure, it needs to completely re-establish equipment at the refinery. Improving the quality of diesel fuel to European standards will be possible only due to re-equipping the old factory or building a new petrochemical complex in Azerbaijan, the source said earlier.
